Take a Tour
Prospective parents and their children are always welcome to come to look around our exciting learning environments. If you are interested in finding out more about Island Bay School please call to arrange a time to meet our Principal and take a tour of the school.
Once your child has turned four years old please contact the school office to pre enrol.Your child’s name will then be added to the Island Bay School’s pre-entry register. This helps us to plan classes for the year ahead.
Enrolment forms are available from the school office or can be downloaded from this website Enrolment form. Return the completed form one month before your child is due to start at school.
At this time we need to see your child's passport or birth certificate and their immunisation records.
Parents and children are encouraged to visit before beginning school. Once your child is pre-enrolled, your child’s teacher will contact you in the month before their fifth birthday to arrange some pre-school visits.
Island Bay School is zoned, which means that children can enrol at our school if they live within our local area. Please check the map to ensure that you live within zone.
Some primary and many secondary schools in NZ have an enrolment scheme to prevent school overcrowding. This means that only students living in a specified area (the school’s home zone) are guaranteed a place at the school.

Communicating with class teachers
Pop in to class before or after school to say hello! Alternatively you can contact class teachers by phone during morning break (11.00 – 11.30), lunchtime (1.00 – 1.50), or soon after 3.00pm, or send them an email anytime. You can email teachers by clicking on their name on the staff page, which will link you to their email address.
This year we are trialling a change to the break times of morning tea and lunchtime. We are keen to maximise the amount of learning time students have in the morning and reduce the afternoon time. We are also keen to slightly lengthen the morning tea break by 10 minutes and shorten the lunchtime by 10 mins. The length of contact teaching time is the same.
11.00-11.30 Morning break
1.00-1.50 Lunch break
Junior students will have a short snack break at 10.00am to help them through the longer first session.
