For planning purposes, we need this form to be filled out for ALL YEAR 4 TO 6 STUDENTS (even if you did one last year).

The education sector realises that technologies can support children's learning at all levels of the school. In 2022, all students in Years 4, 5 and 6 are being invited to bring their own digital device to school to support their learning. This can be an iPad, Mac laptop, or Chromebook.

From our experience with BYOD over the past 7 years, iPads have proven to be the most user friendly option for our Island Bay students to use. If you are intending on providing your child with a Chromebook, it is important that these are medium to high specifications models.

Whilst we recommend that students bring a device to school as a personal learning tool, the BYOD invitation is OPTIONAL.

Each BYOD learning environment (Harakeke, Rimurimu, Tūī, and Korimako) will be resourced with devices provided by the school. This is approximately 1 device for every 4 or 5 students.

Every BYOD device is beneficial, not just to the student bringing it, but to those who do not bring a device, as it increases access to the digital devices provided by Island Bay School. You are welcome to purchase your device from anywhere, however, Noel Leeming and PB Tech also offers great packages and prices for schools. You can mention Island Bay School if ordering from them. https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/byod-toolkit.html.

We also have 20 ex-lease Apple iPad 9.7" (6th Gen.) 32GB WiFi for sale from early December. If you are interested in having one of these put aside for you, please email jacqui@islandbay.school.nz. Price is yet to be confirmed and first in first served.

Other documentation regarding Privacy Policy, Student Use Agreements, and monitoring/security and digital safety will be provided before the start of school in 2022. Please feel free to contact Jacqui (jacqui@islandbay.school.nz) or Mel (mel@islandbay.school.nz) if you have any further questions.
