School Update #3 - 20 Aug

Dear Parents/Whānau,

Many of you will have heard from the Prime Minister today that Wellington has three confirmed cases. We will now remain in Alert level 4 until 11.59pm, Tuesday 24th August.

Please remember to look after yourselves as we navigate this together.

Wellbeing for all

The following links have information on wellbeing and supporting a child’s learning at home for parents, caregivers and whānau:

Routine is important for your family, and it’s good to structure time. Routines are reassuring, and promote health and physical wellbeing.

As you are aware, Island Bay School is preparing a distance learning package so that our students can continue learning while the school is closed.

Our distance learning programme will start from Monday 23 August.

You will receive communication from your child's teacher on Sunday 22 August with our website, Zoom times, workshops and activities. Teachers will also reshare with you your home learning codes for seesaw.

We realise that some families, especially in our junior school, may not be familiar with these tools. Feel free to contact staff in our technology team and we will talk you through the process. Home learning codes will be provided for students who don’t sign in with Google. The students who will be emailed codes are in Kōwhai teams (Kākahi - Amy, Ahoaho - Deanne & Rachel, Pātangatanga - Alishah, Nathan & Thena, Manaia - Gina/Maria, Shanon).

We also appreciate that some families may not have access to a device at all. If this is the case please email jacqui@islandbay.school.nz. We recognise and appreciate all the work parents, students, and staff are doing in these challenging circumstances.

With this online package it would help if you could find a workbook for your children to use for all writing and learning tasks they may need to complete.

The online part of the package includes Zoom sessions and Seesaw activities To support your child’s distance learning, we need families to prepare the following at home:
