We are delighted to announce that Sheyne Tuffery will be joining us as our Artist in Residence for 2021. We are very excited for the students to learn new skills from an experienced practising artist. The aim of the residency programme is for students to feel inspired by The Arts and to see the value in pursuing creative interests or careers in their futures.
Sheyne is a multi-media visual artist whose primary mediums are painting, animation and printmaking. Sheyne has a large body of work including dynamic prints and woodcuts as well as a variety of large scale mural works. Sheyne uses his work to create and represent his own cultural context and sense of belonging. His works often envisage futuristic Polynesian urban utopias with strong reference to his Samoan heritage. Sheyne’s recent works also include studies of birdlife both in Aotearoa and Samoa.
Sheyne will be working in the Learning Hub. He will run workshops with students as well as spend time on his own projects. During the residency Sheyne will create a mural based on our school kaupapa. The mural will be painted on the wall behind the playground next to Ahoaho.
Please pop in to say hello, Sheyne is very knowledgeable and would be more than happy to chat with you about his work. Check out Sheyne’s art at his website. Sheyne will be with us for four weeks, starting on Tuesday 8 June. He will be working Monday-Thursday.
