Southern Zone Athletics – Newtown Park

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

Thursday 5th November 2020 9am- 3pm

PP Thursday 12 November

If your child has qualified to compete at the Southern Zone Athletics here is the information you need to know. You will have received an email from Alice confirming your child's qualification and the list is below.

The day runs on a rotation system of events for each year/gender. Children watch from the stands while they wait for their event. I realise some children will only compete in one event. If you want to transport your child to and from the event privately so they don’t miss the whole day at school, please let me know.

We will go by bus to and from the event, leaving at 9am and returning by 3pm. Please send your child prepared to school by 8.45, meeting in the hall.

The bus will cost $4.50, and can be paid on Kindo (this will go out to you on Monday) . This will also act as permission for your child to attend. Please pay by Wednesday 4 November.

Children must have appropriate footwear, warm clothing, a sunhat, and sunblock. Athletes can compete in sports shoes, bare feet or athletic spikes (5mm spikes only). Each athlete will need to wear an Island Bay t-shirt or top. Although there is no allocation time slot for lunch, children must bring enough food and drink to get them through the day.

The timetable below is for your information and here are the fair play rules for all competitors, parents and schools to abide by.

Island Bay School is in charge of running the boys’ quoits and discus competition. We require parental support to help run this event with me. We also need help to manage and supervise children on their rotation of events. Please email me and let me know if you can help- even if it is for a part of the day.

Kind regards

Alice Domett Doyle
